Kylian Mbappé scored the only goal as France beat Turkey 1-0 in Zinedine Zidane’s first match in charge, but the night ended in concern. The Real Madrid forward suffered a knee injury shortly after his 54th-minute strike and was forced off.
Zidane confirmed the injury is being assessed and Mbappé has already returned to Madrid for further checks. France will now prepare for their next Nations League fixtures without their star attacker.
The result itself was positive for the new coach. France controlled large parts of the game against a Turkey side that finished with ten men. Belgium also started their campaign well with a 2-0 win in Italy, while England face Spain later today.
Mbappé’s fitness is now the biggest talking point. Real Madrid will be anxious ahead of their next Champions League fixtures, and France’s Nations League hopes could be affected if the injury is serious.
